i'll start this post, with a little info bout me n the internet. not dat anyone cares but i want to write about it anyways to get this post started.

me and the internet goes way back. back when i was in standard 4 or 5. the first thing that i do with the internet, chat on mirc. got to know many ppl there, including my ex. lol. i've been using the internet since dial up connection days. had an email which i use to keep in touch with my mirc friends. when i was in form 2 or 3, comes friendster. at that time i think my house was installed with streamyx connection but most of my activities on the net at that time mostly revolves around mirc (where i download songs) and friendster. at that time, handphones are on the rise thus eliminating the use of e-mail to keep in touch with friends, bit by bit.

ok enuf ramble about me, now i can write about today's internet.

there's a good side and bad side of everything so since i like to have the bad news first, i'd like to write on the negative side of the internet before going on with the positive aspect of it. from what i can see, ppl tend to put the internet first, slowly making their lives revolve around it. there are ppl who uses internet to get cheap fame by basically posting their entire life on the net. these ppl would do anything "for the facebook" or "for the twitter" etc. if there's something interesting, the first thing that comes into their minds, "ni boleh twit ni" or "letak status fesbuk bes ni!". do realize that too much exposure on the internet can be a bad thing. u want ppl to know about u? fine. but dont u dare complain if u have stalkers or threats etc. u are the one updating every single thing of ur life on the net. "lepas ni nak g tgk wayang la...macam bes je tgk kat mid valley....ihik ihik ihik" "i've just checked in wangsa walk's toilet to take a huge dump" etc.

emo fags. in my humble and most honest opinion, they are funny. expressing how they feel publicly for the whole world to read. "i just broke up....sob sob sob isk isk wuuuuuu" "sakit ati btl aku dengan management uni ni...blablablablabla" and rant and rant and emo and emo bullshit. totally waste of money for ur internet if u only use it to rant and emo and shit for the whole world to see what a pathetic human being u are. even if u pay 10 bucks per month for ur internet, that 10 bucks would be more useful if u donated it rather than using it to pay for internet connection just to ramble for everyone to see. ok fine this is sort of like a rant, its not like anyones reading anyways. besides, i dont call everyone i know to read my blog. if u find it, good for u. but i'm not responsible if u're reading all this crap that i typed lol. unlike facebook twitter myspace 4sq or shit, u have actual friends who are connected to it. who might not all gives a damn if u are crapping in sunway pyramid's toilet with ur twitter n 4square updates or even facebook status. lol.

media wannabes. i think they are on the same level as emo fags. just want cheap attention on the net. internet stardom as the say. lololololol. these types of ppl, feel cool to have the latest shits on their blogs, facebook or twitter when actually the found it elsewhere. spreading only-god-knows-the-truth types of news, info, gossips and all sort of speculation shit there is on the net. when asked where do u get this shit? "i got it from this 1 website". oh great its from the net, then this shit must be true!

ok2 enuf on the negative side. internet has many other uses than fame publicity etc. u can keep in touch wit ur friends through all the social networks available. update important parts of ur lives so ur friends knows whats happening but please oh please dont overshare. i dont think ur friends want to know what u are wearing to sleep or munching at the moment. lol.

info sharing on the net. best when u are sure about the info. tau hujung pangkal etc. there are many sources on the net that are reliable and from where we can learn from. if u want to share it, give credit to them, the ppl who u gain knowledge from. its not a freakin race to see who's got cooler info and shit. and it definitely is not a publicity contest to see who's famous. there's no need to seek attention on the net, that will only put urself in many positions that i'm sure u wouldnt want to be in (threats, stalkers etc).

Hoh..1st blog update from my liquid metal..lol

During a karaoke session which i'm currently in (lol), i've noticed that even a gangster looking guy sings love songs. Which made me think, that even gangster looking guys are still male, who wants attention from the opposite sex and made me think bout the things guys and even girls do to get the attention of the opposite sex (apparently this only applies to the straight ones, lol)

Like the example i've mentioned above, some guys choose to be tough and gangster like to attract the oppisite sex. Makes them stand easier from the rest of the crowd perhaps?

...and to follow the flow, there are girls trying to look tough just so that they can get along well with those types of guys. Well this is just an example but i hope u get what i mean. There are many other funny ways that ppl do, including some that i've mentioned in previous posts such as following trends regardless if it suits them or not.

Do we really need such acts in our daily lives? Surely this post does not apply to all, but still, do we need it? I'm just happy observing all the funny things that ppl, including myself, do in our daily lives. Maybe that just adds colors in our lives? Hurm..

okay just gonna skip the apologies for not updating coz dis IS my blog, suke ati aku la nak update ke x..lol

but today, i feel like a little more crappier than ever, so i'd like to crap more in this post..so this post will be sorta like a tl;dr kinda post. good luck reading all u jobless readers.

so back to the main point...what is wrong with our world today? ppl doing many funny things just to be noticed. thats one of my opinions apart from money which i think i'll crap further next time lol. ATTENTION. why do ppl crave for it to the extend that some of em even lost touch on who they really are (IMO)?

in my perspective, ppl want to have a sense of belonging wherever they may go. this sense of belonging may come from the attention that ppl around them are giving towards them. too much attention given to a person can make that person kinda addicted to all those attention up to the point that they starts to crave for it. this craving, leads towards all the funny things that they do in their ordinary lives just to have some attention.

ala takkan la tu pon takle nak figure out kot...fine, here's some examples of the funny things i've seen from ppl that feels like they need more attention (just an opinion btw..no hard feelings kalau ade dalam sekerat yg bace ni terase)

okay i'll start off with 1 of my favourite attention seekers, "photographers". mind u, i'm talking about "photographers" and not the actual photographers dat can take awesome pics even using a cameraphone. lol.

"photographers" are ppl who are willing to spend their entire lifetime's savings just to be seen with a HUGE camera around their necks but just takes normal pictures using their HUGE cameras on auto. lols. well i dont mind, its ur lost. few years later when its not that much of a trend, do try n look for ur camera k? (most of my friends already sold theirs, lol)

okay, next on my list are fashion follower/worshippers. er..sorry if some are offended by the pic but tudung fashion is the easiest example that i can think of. y? because some of it, which includes the example pic that i've posted above, are not following the right ways to wear a tudung.

ok bab ni aku kene spikang melayu lak. sebab...orang yg pakai tudung berpesen2 sampai macam dalam gambo ni bagi aku dah macam bertudung sebab nak berpesen.

well there are many other funny things...malays drinking, mat rempit etc. most of this funny things are just to attract the attention of the opposite gender. take camera for instance, a guy/girl may think that they can get the guy/girl of their dreams easily if they had a HUGE camera around their necks. lol thats a laugh. i remembered a conversation with a close friend of mine.. (flashback mode)

effect of overloaded owners of SLR cameras

1st of all, the usual apologies for having a life n not updating this blog more frequently. lols kidding. was kinda busy n had many issues b4. now all of it are considered done n i can finally find a boring place in my life to update this blog of mine. +_+

i think we all know that SLR cameras are everywhere these days. its a trend. but what are the effects of this scenario? from what i can see, ppl are starting to spend more, coz SLR camera's price range if i'm not mistaken would be more than RM1000 for a complete basic set. yes ppl are learning to save their money, some even cut down on their eating just to save up money to buy these cameras. but once they have enuf money, they spend it all at once just for that camera, only to act cool with it (well, ppl ARE overrating the device to me lol)

this scenario also created DOZENS of self-proclaimed photographers. taking normal pictures that can be taken better with a cameraphone (well not in terms of pic resolution of course) and just edit the picture afterwards with the additional "blablabla photography" on it. lol. n most of the photographers today just build their reputation just by being friends with good looking dudes and chicks and taking photos of them. thus, the word gets out that the person taking that picture is a photography GOD. *sigh*

another self-proclaimer that arises with this 'trend' on my observation would be the self-proclaiming models. just because they're friends with ppl who owns SLRs, they're usually invited to photo shootings by their friends to hv their pictures taken in the best possible manner to make they look perfect inside that photo session. n just because of that, they're claiming themselves as 'models'. *another sigh*

as the circle goes, ppl buys SLR, claiming to be a photographer, are friends with good looking peeps, invites them for a photoshoot, taking normal pictures, but the good looking peeps dont know a thing about ACTUAL photography uploads in onto facebook n calls it ART and claiming that the photographer is a photography GOD while claiming to be a 'part-time' model.

trust me, there are ppl spending their wealth to take pictures like this

well they're better of buying a normal digital camera instead IMO. lols

youth festival vs rock the world

phew, just finished my time as a volunteer at youth '10 festival. specific location : battle of the bands stage.

here's my vote on the title of this post, YOUTH FESTIVAL!
yes, i'm voting for youth festival over rock the world, an event i've been attending since high school. simply because, youth festival really has what it takes! (seriously, this is not a promotion)

ok for rock the world cons, since the past few rock the worlds, bands performing are bands that are played on the radio, or at least bands that have a reputation. to me those bands are overrated. well at least most of them are. there only few great bands that performs at rock the world, and the fact of paying 20+ to see a boring show, makes me lazier to go.

youth festival, an event for youths. frankly speaking the event itself is a healthy event with lots and lots of cool activities, and of course, FREEBIES. but since i'm 1 of the music volunteer team, i'll crap more about the musical side of the event.

for all 3 days, i've witnessed lots and lots (i do mean LOTS) of great bands performing, which makes me more irritated to those who dare to say malaysian music doesnt have what it takes. great bands from my perspective, bands who does not follow the trend, creates great, creative music.

from contestants of battle of the bands to the performers of the event, MANY great bands played! seriously, that is music. even tipped a reporter on a band that i've been watching, who appears to be the champion of youth festival's battle of the band. haha.

seriously being a volunteer working around the stage area, made me really proud of the ACTUAL music scene in malaysia. no crap bands playing brit pop 'indie' songs (no offence to the genre but crappy bands playing the genre and calling themselves 'indie' spreading like shit is starting to make me sick)

seriously if u didnt came by youth '10 or the battle of the band stage last weekend, u've missed out on a hell of an experience. especially for music lovers. coz i even knew a band whose members are around 20 years old. they do play GREAT songs and they are performing at an event on that age. how cool is that? n still some ppl have the guts to say malaysian music doesnt have what it takes?

i think we have what it takes in the music SCENE, but not in the INDUSTRY. coz the industry focusses more on mainstream bands/music...and yeah, i think currently it is focused on brit pop 'idie' bands. such a shame for the great bands who are not getting the credit from the INDUSTRY :(

well nvm, i got many REAL malaysian musicians' contact details from the event. who knows, maybe it'll worth something someday ^^

well, hope that the real musicians will get the chance to go big. just look at Pop shuvit. let all the stupid kids ignore them, they're a blast in japan! Estranged, quite similar situation, n yet they performed for MTV's world staage here. they deserve that international recognition coz they are REAL musicians. lets hope they give a sense of hope to other REAL musicians here to just forget our local crowd, they're just focusing on being cool, they don't know music i guess. lol :)

following my previous post, i'd like to make a simple test, here in Malaysia

looking for a band, no matter how crappy you are, as long as ur in a band and can play music or even make noise with the instrument for all that i care.

to the band, i'd like it for you to go online, broadcast ur music everywhere possible. after doing that, just create a random hype bout ur band. just say it to the kids if they still havent heard bout ur band, they're so yesterday. hope and just hope that the hype u've created will get the kids' attention. plus points if u're aiming the 'cool schools' such as schools in damansara, shah alam, seri bintang utara or any school that you may think is cool.

next step, play in a local gig, once the hype is out and all the kids are banging to ur music no matter how crappy it is, they'll surely bang their heads off when they see u live. (proven by all the shitty malaysian bands out there who doesnt know how to really make own music, and not the same shitty music that other bands are playing)

after u've gone live, its time to go BIG babe! screw all the 'indie' labels u got while u were promoting ur music. thats just for promotion purposes only! get a record company to sign u in n go ahead and make a shitty album/EP or anything shitty for all i care. all the 'famous' bands are doing it right?

well, here comes the kids role again, surely they will buy ur album and give you their full support even when they're shitting piglets out from their ass. at this point, u can just play what ever music that they want u to play. do remember, it does not fuckin matter if ur music is that horibble. they're still giving their heart out to support u coz they'll think that by supporting such crappy music will make them cool. heck they'll also think they'll score +1000 cool points if they're a hardcore fan of urs.

ok now that u've made it big with ur crappy music, time to break it to the stupid kids. just make a statement bout the entire plan and just say that all ur supporters are shitheads for trusting the stupid hype. but well if u really do that, good luck walking around bukit bintang, pavillion or even mid valley coz all of them idiots seems to make all that spots their hangout place. haha

actually this is just another stupid theory on all the shitty music thats been circulating around Malaysia coz young bands prefer to follow the kids' demands and not trying to be unique with own style of music, well at least music that is not similar to 10 other bands within the same country. please, i've seen freelancer musicians play far better music than our so called 'artists' that only know how to follow the music trend.

i decided to stop the comments on the shoutbox as ur committee are replying my questions with nonsense, even after i ignored them. even replied as wadefak's mom, wtf? kurang ajar sangat sampai ke level macam tu? they even replied using my name after i ignored them. *sigh*

the facts are, u're not doing ur job right. u've stated to approach the 2nd highes vote here but then about a week later u made another voting between 6th sense and disagree (link). voting also 1 week before actual event. wtf? if u've really contacted disagree 1 week before opening another vote, i think u can have them at ur show. maybe u can just manage 6th sense because they are the only available artist? if so then stop with the bullshit and just say so.

u made the new voting 1 week before the actual event and only gave us about 24 hours to vote. and when disagree's vote increases, u say that its a false vote, saying that the voter have same ip address. u cant get the voter's ip address unless u hosted the voting inside UTP. i'm an ICT student. if you can provide me actual proof on this issue then i'll drop it. else, stop the bullshit please.

u guys even printed the banner without any guest artist information on it. do you think that the guest artist is just cukop syarat to manage eupho? thinking that we'll come even if you bring in any artist as long as there's a guest artist in the event? well let me tell u, u'll certainly only get attendees who are friends with the band members, or someone who doesnt have anything better to do.

btw u're also saying that the 1st eupho committee ketinggalan zaman? tak tau ape? urs is much better? LOL!! without them, i think u'll never think of hosting euphonious. show some respect to ur elders you dumb #$@#$!. wakakaka. when ur elders give you tips, at least say thanx even if you're not accepting it. sigh, n then still got the balls to say my mom never teach me. how to be a famous artist

after a while, finally a new post is up (dont seem to have much time now)

straight to the point, here a my own personal tips on how to be a famous artist/singer

1 - listen to the radio, try to catch the current music hype, make a song that is similar to the song! kids these days dont really have the taste for music to appreciate uniqueness in music. they just normally go for the hype ones only

2 - good voice is no longer a criteria to be an artist nowdays (especially in Malaysia), refer tip #1

3 - create a song that kids can either bang their head to or dance like shit as if they wish they are in a nightclub. a simple beat editing from current music hype can also help.

4 - make the beat of your song remixable. this will increase the chances of primary school kids to dance anywhere in this world (...and i do mean ANYWHERE) and pretend that they are in a club, hitting it off with a hot chick.

5 - simply try to sneak into a recording studio, and when any artist is recording their sound, try to add your own sound (screams like "yeah" "uh huh" "owh kayyy" or even just blast the mic with your own beat). like i said, good voice is no longer a criteria (refer to tip #2). and if your own sound can make the song more happening or more remixable, you'll surely get a deal out of it.

6 - when all methos fails, just do a cover on all hit songs, +10 if you're covering current hype songs. or better yet, just change some of the lyrics, make it silly, use the original sounds, and make a parody. (this tip is proven by weird al and boyce avenue)

fedora join and split files

normally if i want to split files, i'd compress the file into 7z which has the option to split the files
and to join files, i just use 'cat'

but yesterday my roomate, told me about lxsplit, something like windows' hjsplit.

usage, just type lxsplit -j (filename).001 and the program will join all the files
to split files, just type lxsplit -s (filename) (split size, ex:14M)

kudos to m0d0.

btw the program runs on command line which makes it far much cooler than hjsplit. CLI FTW :D

windows vista "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" problem

just now i had a friend who came to me with a windows vista problem (well, vista itself is a problem to me lol)

when he tries to log on into his vista, an error which says "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded"

a quick googling brought me here.

following the guide, i opened up regedit, change the current user's registry folder's name, and use the bakup registry folder instead. well at least this method works for my situation. if this method doest fix yours, try following alternative solution given on the provided link :)

fedora yum with proxy

as stated in my previous post, i'm using a limited connection. yeah it sucks but recently it became suckier (lol). the it department that handles the internet connection decided to close port 443 for default internet connection. n they ask us to use proxy for internet use.

with port 443 blocked, i couldn't yum install anything. at first i downloaded any required packages manually. but when i have to download every dependency manually, it really starts to bother me. so i searched on how to yum using proxy

my googling result leads me here

...which really makes me feel disappointed at myself for not googling this prob 1st. the workaround for my problem was just to edit /etc/yum.conf and add proxy=http://(proxy server address)

and just like that my problem was solved.

*sigh* T_T

split and join files on MAC

on mac, there's split command - to split large files into smaller chunks. and why do i even want to split my files into smaller pieces you say? take my situation for example, i want to download a large file using a quite limited internet connection, so i split the file into smaller pieces to ease my download process. well you never know the reasons you might use this command but for me its quite handy :D

well for my situation, i'm downloading a 1.65 gb file and would like to split it into 10mb pieces. i open up a shell and just cd into the file's directory and

$ split -b10m filename

where split is the program, -b is to specify the size of the pieces (i'm using 10m to specify it to split into 10mb) and filename is the name of the filename that you want to split

after executing the commands, you will get lots of 10mb files with names starting with 'x' and followed by 'aa', 'ab', 'ac' and so on. it would look more like 'xaa' 'xab' 'xac' 'xad'. each file will have a maximum of 10mb size

so when i have finished downloading all the files, and i want to combine back all the pieces into its original file, i just simply use the cat command

$ cat x* > filename

after executing the command, i get my original file and a quick md5sum tells me that the file is not corrupted at all :)

Fedora 12 remove VMware-Player 3.0

finally i'm on fedora again and after quite some time of leaving the blog alone, i have decided to post on how to remove vmware player 3.0 on fedora 12 (gave me quite the trouble)

VMware-Player 3.0 installer from their website comes with a .bundle file as an installer for linux distros, a simple chmod +x file.bundle and sudo ./file.bundle will install

well, in my situation, installation process is messed up thanx to selinux (grr) so i decided to remove the package itself, at first i tried sudo yum remove VMware-Player as that was the command to remove vmware player 2.5.2 but 3.0 does not remove that way

i tried running the .bundle file again..but sadly it just displays that vmware is installed properly

after some time googling, i nearly gave up.

trying my luck, i looked around vmware's command and there's a vmware-uninstall command (damn)

when i run the command.

$ sudo vmware-uninstall
You have gotten this message because you are either downgrading VMware
Workstation, Player, or VIX, or because you attempted to run either
vmware-uninstall or vmware-uninstall-vix.

If you are downgrading, please uninstall all newer versions first, then
install again.

so..i removed vmware-player by using sudo vmware-installer --uninstall-product vmware-player

...yeah, just as simple as that.. *sigh*

note to self : do disable selinux using easylife package before trying to install vmware again

haha.. there's no wonder to my tiredness. coz the event was a BLAST! :)

went to the event with ihsan at first. picked him up at kl sentral and we arrived at OU around 12..i tot dat we're on time coz i think i heard on fly sayin dat they start at 12..nasib la ade schoolmate kitorang jadi crew..he told us the concert starts at 6..demmit!

sampai2...usya hunny madu...seyesli she was damn cute!! (sori no pics taken throughout the event..nanti aku mintak kat akay) she was wearing a simple dress, wit sneakers!! cair beb :D~~

tgh2 borak dengan schoolmate..hunny madu lalu...pastu dia tegor membe kitorang semate2 nak cakap dia nak bla jap...meaning......schoolmate aku kenal hunny madu!!! FARKH!! SEYES JELES!! >.< **nasib la sebelom tu dah menang headphone xpax..ade kuiz derang tanye2..aku jawap je :D well..to fill up the time, we played pool, planned to watch movies but ended up having a steamboat buffet lunch..managed to kill us a couple of hours.. after done eating, went back to the event..oh ye, we even got VIP passes from our friend! :D 1st band..couple if i'm not mistaken...dunno, and obviously dont care :) it was raining, so we head up to the VIP tent to enjoy our free flow of drinks :D after couple (dis band saks..wakaka) caprice is up if i'm not mistaken (malas nak ingat performance2 tak bes..so aku stori yg bes2 je la from now on) caprice...layan super...did a bunch of awsome covers (ade 2,3 lagu kot tapi yg aku ingat dia cover lagu down - jay sean je) and ended with his own hit song..layan gak, after caprice finish, akay sampai dengan zatil (wewit?) lepak2 la dengan derang after caprice is one buck short, great performance from the malaysian punk rock guru, with their 1 malaysia song featuring faizal tahir.the band also dressed up like they're going to play futsal. tak kesah la, performance mantap, lagu mantap, takde hal.. :D 4th act of the event..disagree...frankly i was afraid if they played their new songs...but luckily they only played their new hit and their old hits...super intro along with the gamelan! after disagree came faizal tahir, tgh2 faizal tahir perform pelik sampai...faizal tahir..sbenanye tau 1 je lagu dia...tapi dia tak main lak lagu tu..instead he played michael jackson's songs...SUPERB!!! with his shades, gloves and m.j t shirt, he truly rocked out the songs! seyes respek o>

lepas faizal tahir...ESTRANGED!
they started off yg pernah...quite boring song but the energy they give with their performance, layan bak2!! followed by in no time...lagu ni seyesli performance derang superb! lagu dah memang keras skek, siap ade banging satu band...macho gile!! their last song lak itu kamu..derang da bosan main slow2 kot...itu kamu pon rich jerit! :D
seyesli, their performance can make them go everywhere..really hope they keep up! :)

ruby is kinda flexible, but there is no way of decoding captured packets, packets are displayed as raw data....

python can decode the raw data...but is not as flexible as ruby...

surfnet IDS installation - Sensor (simplified install guide)

The system's sensor is where all the malicious trafic will be directed, where 'replications' of nepenthes (honeypot program) from tunnel server are placed.

sensor must be installed after finish installing and configuring both servers because the sensor is automatically connected to the servers when it is up. keys from the tunnel server are also required for the sensor to be connected to the server.

follow installation instructions here

copy ca.crt from tunnel server into the sensor's surfids folder. type in "surfids-passwd (insert password here) >> (instert surfids config filename with path here)"
edit the config file with suitable info and edit openvpn.conf by inserting ip address of tunnel server. restart the sensor machine and it will boot into the sensor menu if installation succed. once in the sensor menu, config the sensor accordingly with the right network configurations. note: tunnel endpoint is not the ip address of the tunnel server, but ip address within the same subnet of the sensor.

in case your installation fails and you need to restart installation, dont panic, just ssh into the sensor, apt-get remove --purge surfids-sensor and sudo rm -rf the ids folder to remove any remaining files and just reinstall it by typing sudo apt-get install surfids-sensor.

Surfnet IDS installation - Tunnel server (simplified version)

Continued from the Log server installation guide (based on ubuntu server)

for my installation process, i installed the tunnel server after installing the log server.

oh i forgot to explain what does the tunnel server does and what the heck is the log server.

the tunnel server, as the name implies, is basically where the openvpn server is located. this server is also used to start the nepenthes service as the honeypot itself. any attack on the server will be recorded on the log server which also has a web interface to display all the logged information. below are the steps and notes to be considered while installing the tunnel server.

Step 1 : follow basic installation instructions here
Step 2 : install ARP module from instructions here
Step 3 : Configure server according to your system with this as a guide
Step 4 : Install Nepenthes according to your system by following instructions here

Note:

- key generation during arp module installation may take some time.
- tunnel server .deb package does not include nepenthes.
- edit apache2's ports.conf to specify ip and ports that the server listens for connections
- make sure nepenthes.conf listens to 0.0.0.0 so that the system's sensor will have same open ports as the tunnel server (nepenthes open port)
- restart apache after configurations

Surfnet IDS is kinda like a honeypot system. after trying around the system for the past month, I think that the first ever step towards building the system is to start off with its logserver (based on my experience with a fresh install ubuntu server)

installation guide for the system are provided at surfnet's website.

during installation of the log server, I always face the same problem where the installation fails to connect to PostgreSQL database server. this probably is the result of some bad default configuration files.

after doing some searching, i have found a PostgreSQL installation guide which allows connection to be made to the sql server here.

just follow instructions provided while installing the log server and you should be able to connect to your sql server and finish the installation.

sadly out of 4, only 2 teams from UTP, kor and d0t managed to the next round

through to the 2nd round, a gameshow-like quiz between 4 teams, answering a question after the push of the buzzer..haha
our team are quite behind on the early questions but we managed to catch up with other team's point. but i think luck was not on our side (or maybe the fact that we did not study on SECURING 100%)
we lost on tie braker with black-x who later became the champion of the quiz (takde malu sangat la kot..kalah ngan champion..haha)

1 team down, 1 more to go for UTP, k0r
(insert k0r quarter final quiz story here)
unlike d0t, k0r managed to grap the vital point on the tie braker

when hope shines the most on UTP's side, k0r have to face black-x on their semi finals
before entering the semi final's story
i'd like to share with you what actually happened in F-Secure's building during all the free time that we had

referring here, I would like to congratulate USM for winning F-Secure's security quiz.

for those who doesnt know what quiz is dat, its a computer security quiz organized by F-Secure. I was invited over to join around middle of july08 semester in UTP from my senior Yondie. to participate in the quiz, a team of 3 members must be created. me and silentpupp3t invited loire over to join our team

at the end of july08 semester, we had our prelimination quiz against sunway college. being still fresh in the area, i just answered the exam-like quiz. with no surprise, i got the lowest point for my team at that time but luckily we qualified for the final rounds :D

Yesterday, 30th July 2009 marks the final rounds of the security quiz. if calculated, more than 1 semester has passed since the qualifying quiz. a lot more has learnt, practiced, experienced and gained within the time period.

...but i experience a quite sad start of the quiz +_+

moved from home about 7.30 to reach b4 9...quite a mistake..change plans, naik tren!
and suddenly inside the train around kl central
...sakit perot la pulakkkk T_T
arrived there and just look for the toilet
which made me start answering another qualifying questions for my team quite late
a public apology to loire and silentpupp3t for that >.<
the qualifying quiz consists of 20 subjective questions on computer security to filter 8 teams to go to the quarter final

well, after settling my 'business' i went straight and answer the remaining questions as fast as i can (team with fastest and most correct answer qualifies)

settle answering quiz, now for the teams that qualify

"1st team to qualify..from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, d0t - De Zeroth" (patotnye de zeroth team laaa..haha)
memule cam tak caye gak...but dem!! thats my team!!

let us all pray for our beloved Yasmin Ahmad who died at 51 of stroke and brain haemorrhage on 11.25 pm last nite..
her works of arts has surely touched every single being who watched it regardless a malaysian or not
because her work truly comes from within, honesty from herself
to spread a message in her own unique way

from every single advertisement, every single movie, everything that she published
she included many and many important lesson to be learnt
because every work that she published, has its own meaning
a meaning for us to be seen, learnt and practiced
she conveys the message regardless of the protests and criticisms

that is truly the mark of a lagend..
she stood by her principles, knows what's important
and lets everyone knows that in her own way

..and for that, she will be missed dearly by every single person who was touched by her work..

let this be a wake up call, to make the artists in Malaysia realize
that not everything is about the money
but to reach out to every single person in a specific way
to show them a meaning in a single art work

and for everyone else, we should really be more like her
brave, standing for what is right
while teaching the entire world what living is really about

Yasmin Ahmad will surely be missed
and i personally hope, that her death wakes up her industry
to open up their minds, and be more open towards art
and hopefully, with their opened minds..
we can finally see the effects of Yasmin Ahmad work
on other art producers :)

people tend to follow the trend

...but y?

is it the need to be noticed?
need to look good in front of others?
need for new friends?

....or maybe they just dont know themselves really well?

its good to try out new things
but at the end of the day
you really should know
what you really want
what you really need
what you just want for a while
what you simply just dont need

fashions come and go
so does trends
people may be goth, punk, hiphop, play skateboard, become photographers, singer or maybe anything that suits at that time
but what happens when its not the trend anymore?
are you really into it anymore?
if you do, good for you
you may found what you really like

but if you dont, think about all those things that you bought just to be in the moment's trend
and what you can really buy with that money
think also about what happens with the stuffs thats not trendy anymore
what will you do with it?

like i said before, maybe you just dont know urself very well..take ur time

most people can only see it as a waste of time with online chats
what they dont know is there's more to mirc than chatting

personally i've met many person in mirc
like in the previous post i've mentioned that study is a lifelong process
..and i have certainly learn a LOT from mirc

mirc is where ideas come together
views come together
opinions shared
which is very valuable in terms of 'growing up' mentally
lessons taken from the mistakes of others are the best lessons in life
we HAVE to learn from their mistakes
cause we cant afford to make every single mistake in this world
here, we can really learn a lot of stuffs
personal idea, views, thoughts

yes we may have the internet but websites doesnt give us enough closure to learn
we can also have closure by going out together
but that is just a waste (transport, money, time)
personally for me, mirc is the best way to socialize and learn new stuff
know people better, because here, people tend to show their true colours :)

there are google talk and yahoo messenger and other instant messaging services
but you have to add only those you know
where does the socializing play its role here?
here, theres no need for you to add a person into your friend list to socialize
they are just there
just go ahead and know them better
besides who says that mirc is just knowing people on the net? ;p

to me, its really a big waste in not using this utility provided for the students themselves
c'mon UTP students, u guys should be able to see that mirc is more than just plain chats - u guys SHOULD really see
please think outside the box :)

who says if you study well you will have a better life?

who says that what you are studying is enough for your future work?

who says that the highest scorer in the class will perform in their future work?

life is a lifelong lesson itself
each day we learn new stuff
how to live
how to do our work
how to deal with others

these are not the things that are taught within an average classroom
our classroom itself doesnt give us enough information on the stuffs being taught
we need to explore more ourselves for us to really understand what is being learnt
but sadly our explorations is not included in the final exam papers
who cares?
papers are just papers
we do the thing we do
and make sure that you make the most out of what you do
in the end the papers doesnt really matters
it only helps with your 1st job
then u'll be on ur own
this is where all the knowledge that you learnt during all those years come in handy
and that is when you know you will succeed or not

like i said, papers are just papers
to do well on papers, TONS and TONS of ways are created
legally or illegally
that is why that the papers are not that important

have faith, do ur best in what ur doing
and with HIS blessing, you WILL succeed :)

just heard the latest album from Estranged - Remain Unknown

this album really brings up the level of music in Malaysia
its been awhile since i've heard good quality in Malaysian music..after Disagree, Pop Shuvit, Butterfingers, OAG, Lied, Dragon Red etc

this album contains various types of music which blends in together well in a single song. it shows their creativity instead of creating typical music that most artists here in Malaysia do. we really need to support these types of bands because they REALLY deserve the support that they need because if you really listen to the album, they truly DESERVE to be on the top at this moment

the album also contains several malay songs that takes the "malay song" term to a whole new level with their awesome music. besides Aurora, i'd like for you to listen to the song called "Masa". for those inside utp in village 5, search for it.

to estranged, keep it up. u guys really make great music. dont let the trend change u EVER. u WILL be at the top :)

currently the song is ranked at number 9 but i wont be surprised if this one hell of a song wont go further than number 5 (seriously estranged, no offence) coz malaysians tend to overlook their own music interest, what they really like and just accept the current music trend..

just got back from x gig in ipow yesterday..frankly speaking i was only looking forward in seeing 2 bands which are Muck and Bunkface
bunkface
new kot in the scene
never heard b4 but now dah mainstream (maaf..dah lame tak folo under scene >.<)
herm..arrived there quite late..just able to see bunkface..muck dah lepas :(
after bunkface..no poin in hangin around in dat crowded place..kelua laaa!
sitting outside..hearing the rest of the bands played...
..i cant tell the difference between one band from another..they all sound alike
it got me thinkin....

.....do they really deserve the support that we give em???

in this post, i want to introduce a special channel in utpchat (well at least for me) which is #july06..my batch's channel..first joined in july 2006..during my 1st foundation year..tried to promote the server among batchmates but it seems that the existance of dcpp gets more attention at that time..among the first ones to occupy #july06 was me, my roomate and few of my other friends which i will introduce to u all after this

roughly about after finishing foundation, #july06 seems to grow..since then..memories by memories fill my life from just a channel in a relay chat (say what u want but i learnt a LOT here)

its really been awhile since my last post :P

but since i can go online again, i think i'll write bout estranged's (pelik) performance here last nite

b4 goin to the performance part, let me give a brief intro of how i knew estranged

think it was back in 2003 or 04..cant remember but i think i 1st see them performing at rock the world

at that time their song 'velocity' just hit the radio stations (hitz.fm mostly at that time)

mase that song baru released, i can't accept the fact that malaysian musician could produce this level of music (apart from disagree which i'll probably write bout in my next post)

cam biase la kan, when u hear a great local band's song on the radio, mesti la cant wait to see them live :P

so kene pulak they are performing in rock the world at the end of that year..of course la pegi tgk :D

at that time, jujur aku cakap their performance didn't disappoint me as they performed their songs well with full of energy

but i guess that is just the past

after that performance at rock the world, their song 'itu kamu' became famous and since that they started to perform malay songs

for those malaysians who still dont know bout 'itu kamu' (which i think there's none) it is a love song. to me the song is quite good coz its a malay song with their own twist which really made a difference in malay songs. the song is really their hit for a long....

.....long time.. and i mean LONG as in still-being-a-hit-after-several-years long! even if the song is really something, you still get bored after hearing it for several years almost everywhere that you go. maybe because of the success that they feel on this particular song, they produced more malay songs

frankly speaking, i was not that shocked to see them releasing another malay single because of the success of 'itu kamu' maybe..but i was honestly disappointed with them because i really think with the right marketing strategy, their english songs can really go further than 'itu kamu' has ever been. eh i forgot to mention the new single's title - 'yang pernah' if i'm not mistaken la..that's the result that i get when googling for it :D

when i hear this song, not shocked..disappointed..and then shocked pulak..lol..coz this song kinda bring their true style in a malay song - sounds kinda like their english songs, but using malay words :P

dem lost in this post..back to main topic, their perfomance here last night (panjang gile aku intro derang).. honestly i went to the talent search to see them perform as its been a while since i last saw them performing..even a while since i've been to a live performance lol

their 1st song..as expected..a malay song..dunno the title though..haha..the song doesn't show their style at all..not the estrange song that i know..maybe this is the effect of 'itu kamu' on their side..producing malay songs searching for the 'itu kamu' in each of them..come on guys..i think you need to just stay with what you got and improve on that..

2nd song.. their latest single laa.. 'yang pernah' - dems..what a waste on such a great song..they really torn their own song apart from that performance..the music of the recorded version was smart haram to me but when they performed it yesterday.. *sigh* all their instruments sounded like everything was broken.. more towards loud noise rather than music to me

3rd song..at first they said that they're bored of the song..THANK GOD THEY FELT THAT WAY TOO was what i thought at first when they said that.. but tadaaaa! their 3rd song was itu...*wait for it*... *wait for it*.... KAMU~!! (gile barney ayat) but as the sad song that it has already been..it was not that lagendary anymore

4th song..an english song..dunno the name but this is the best song that they can give me for the night.. got their own style on that song..great music

wooo currently i'm listening to you're gonna go far, kid by the offspring..pretty amazing song

been hearing dis song for the past two hours i guess..wit my lil bro..lol~ maybe its kinda freaky having to hear a single song over and over for about two hours but for me..this song really shows their image as the offspring in this new album :)

at first i just read the lyrics of this song and to me the lyrics seems meaningless (at first!) but after hearin over and over..the lyrics are kinda deep..i think its about a really farkhed up liar in daily life..at least to me la :D

what really gets me bout this song is the music style...really OFFSPRING!! :)
the song starts off with a catchy tune with a cool riff of drums and not forgetting wit the matching choice of guitar chords (hats off to them for this) that really gets me in the mood to move when suddenly..

..the pre chorus (i guess) comes in with the lyrics "now dance, farkher, dance"

herm..kinda cool to be performin it live during a real dance..when every1 is moovin to the catchy intro til the pre chorus part..haha

when the chorus comes in, really headbangin stuff..at least for punk rock music la.. :D
all that within a song that i think is about big time farkhin liars..whoa~ kinda amazed wit them for a sec there..but heck its the offspring for god's sake :)

my lil bro even opened their live performance of this song on youtube..hats off again coz their performance live is really something to watch..really hope that they come over to malaysia for a performance..and hopefully there wont be any problem for me to see them perform coz i'd definitely go and watch them perform..like i did wit incubus XD

oh i really drafted away there..lol~
back to the vid, i really liked the part near to the endin when there's no guitar sound..only bass and their guitarist just screams "dance farkher dance" part..funny~ haha :D
some of the comment on the vid even said that their live performance of the song is better than the album version (clap2) XD

the solo for the song is really sumthin also even its not dat complicated (its a punk rock song solo..go figure :D) coz the solo comes in as the dexter's voice fade on the chorus...kinda smart..hihu~

again..hats off to the offspring for producing a hell of a song for their new album..rise and fall, rage and grace..really shows their talent on producing a great song wit the right mixtures of elements within the song :D

haha the 2nd post in my blog and yet another band review..but this time its more towards an album review..

btw, i AM A HUGE FAN of this band..i think i have ALL of their songs in my external..just name it!! haha

i just got the album (no need to tell where i got it lah...sian kat offspring..haha) and currently listening to it..tak abes semua lagi pon but wut the heck..their album is really something to write about

generally they haven't lost their punk rock touch with the exception of a few song which was a bit jambu for me..namely kristy, are you doing okay? maybe they want to increase their album sales that way? lol.. but personally for me there's nothing more that they can do to increase their sales as all of their songs so far have reached out to all of their fans..heck most of my fans are into punk rock and they LOVE the offspring..mostly because of their style of music maybe

1 thing dat i cant accept bout their latest album is their change within a few of their song which for me does not relate to their original style of music.. some of the songs inside this album even has PIANO!! haha.. in this album u can also notice that dexter's voice became more jambu during some songs.. -_-'

negatives aside, this album also contains songs that have not lost their punk rock touch..cant remember the name rite now (well actually lazy to open the other tab coz i'm writing..haha) but some of the song really reflects their true style, happy and not so meaningful songs (well..for me la..haha)

herm..runing out of ideas to comment on this album so i guess i'll end it here..maybe if i got some more shit to say i'll log in again and edit this post..haha..

whoa this is my first post on a blog but to the readers out there, i'm sorry to disappoint you but i don't think that i'll be making this blog like my diary or sumthin..this means that i won't probably put in all the things i done in the day..how i feel about someone or sumthin like dat.. maybe sometimes but i wont get my hopes up lol~

the first view from me is about a big time malaysian ban (well at least for me..so boo u!) Dragon Red..got their album bout a year or two back..remembered the first and only (i think) time i saw them live..at rock the world..they played system of a down's toxicity..dat song was like a has been song at dat time but for me they started off with just the right style with dat song..kinda like bringing back d dead la..lol~
i think after watching them live i knew i MUST have their album
after havin their album..WHOA!! their music is really amazing...simply amazing! never heard a malaysian band sound like that (apart from disagree kot..haha)
to me their music is kinda hybrid between linkin park n korn (the linkin park maybe coz they have 2 vocals :P )
but i was really amazed by their music and never thought dat a malaysian band could reach dis level!! i even got maybe all their videos on the net..googled and googled for them..haha
their live performance is really head bangin n their album is awesome..what more can i say
really hope to see them live again..hopefuly..
back last year i saw on their site that they are coming to UTP..with the hotlink tour if i'm not mistaken..well at least they are scheduled to come but i think that their music is not the type that the management approves..maybe dats the reason they didn't came.. :(
haa..i even saw on their site bout a year ago that they will perform at US for some big concert..dunno how that goes but again i was amazed that they got a slot in a concert at US..pretty big la for a rising band in Malaysia..
really think that they got talent.. to me they got what it takes to go international..but maybe coz they are inside malaysia..cant do much bout it..maybe~ haha
to those out there (if there are people readin dis crap) who haven't heard of them..FIND THEIR MUSIC!! at least search for them at youtube..search for sumthin like dragon red..can also try dragon red holocaust (the name of their album n a song in dat album)

dunno bout others but i'm certainly waiting patiently for their next release :D
